I saw a comment expressing interest in art, specifically the “Propaganda Poser Art†exhibit listed on that page. I’m sure the exhibit is very interesting and educational, but, because I don’t live near San Francisco and can’t readily see the whole thing, my total exposure is going to have to be limited to the single sample poster offered alongside the text.
Unable to experience the entire display, I don’t feel guilty of philistinism in saying that’s a weird image to want to present to the world. I don’t read Chinese, but I’m pretty sure the caption below does not translate as “Marching to the future in a teeming mass, delighted to possess these enormous fists and undaunted by our tiny skulls!†Nevertheless, that’s what I’m seeing there: a throng of cheerful, mighty nincompoops.
